Meet Our 2025 Board Nominees

Nominee(s) for President-Elect (3-Year Commitment)

Penelope Murphy
Natural Resource Scientist, Office of Applied Science, WDNR
M.S. in Wildlife Ecology from UW Madison; B.S. in Biology and Environmental Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges

Statement of Interest:
Over the past several years that I’ve lived in Wisconsin, I’ve been grateful to be a part of the wildlife research and management community. I am interested in dedicating my time and energy to this community through a board member position with the Wisconsin Chapter of The Wildlife Society. Specifically, I am most interested in running for the Treasurer or Open Board Seat position. While I do not have experience serving on a board, I have strong oral and written communication skills to offer and an interest in promoting and supporting the society in its mission to enable the wildlife community to sustain wildlife populations and habitats.

Interests:
Professional: game bird research and management, climate change ecology, aquatic ecosystems, and I'm interested in learning more about habitat management strategies like prescribed burns. Personal: fly fishing, birding, trail running/hiking, and interested in getting more into duck and grouse hunting

Nominee(s) for Treasurer (2-Year Commitment)

David Terrall
USDA Wildlife Services
B.S. and M.S. Wildlife Science, South Dakota State University

Statement of Interest:

I would like to be on the board in order to serve the community of wildlife professionals in Wisconsin. I have been in the wildlife field for 20 years in both federal and NGO capacities and would bring the perspective of both to the position.

Interests:

Outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, dog training.

Nominee(s) for Open Board Seat (2-Year Commitment)

Derek Johnson
Wildlife Biologist, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
Bachelor's majoring in Conservation and Field Biology from UW-River Falls

Statement of Interest:

I look forward to the opportunity to once again serve the WCTWS as a board member. Through my experience several years ago in the Presidental positions, I have gained a lot of knowledge on what works and doesn't as far as managing the Chapter's activities and conferences. I would enjoy this opportunity to help a new group of board members in this role as we continue to promote our Chapter's values and educate, connect and recognize our members.

Interests:

My interests in my personal life are varied and widespread. I find that tinkering in many different outdoor pursuits fills me with more satisfaction than specializing in one or a few. That said, turkey hunting and ice fishing are two of my main interests. Professionally, beyond my areas of responsibility, I really enjoy working with internal and external partners on complex topics. Also, I enjoy mentoring our greener staff and helping them advance in their careers through experience, training and advice.
